Extreme Disappointment
I am writing today to express my extreme disappointment regarding your decision to include Canadian natural gas and oil producers on the same list as firearms manufacturers, tobacco companies and pornographers by prohibiting them from supporting any City of Regina events, sponsorships or naming opportunities.
This is a short-sighted decision that casts aspersions the thousands of Regina and Saskatchewan residents who earn the incomes in the natural resource industry. The refinery alone employs thousands.
So I am asking you to reserve course on your decision, to remove Canada’s natural gas and oil companies from this list and stand up in support of one of our most important sectors.
I await your response.

I am writing today to express my extreme disappointment regarding the decision of 7 councillors to include Canadian natural gas and oil producers on the same list as firearms manufacturers, tobacco companies and pornographers by prohibiting them from supporting any City of Regina events, sponsorships or naming opportunities.
This is a short-sighted decision that casts aspersions the thousands of Regina and Saskatchewan residents who earn the incomes in the natural resource industry. The refinery alone employs thousands. Billions of dollars in economic activity are generated every year in Saskatchewan. This helps funds our schools, hospitals and roads. All services we rely on in Regina every day.
So I am asking you to reserve course on your decision, to remove Canada’s natural gas and oil companies from this list and stand up in support of one of our most important sectors.
I await your response.

I support Canadian energy
The decision by the Executive Committee to pass a motion prohibiting Canadian oil and natural gas companies from supporting City of Regina events makes zero sense. Does this include the Co-op refinery? One of our city’s largest employers. Or what about Evraz? They manufacture much of the pipe to support the transportation of fossil fuels. Will they be excluded as well?
Has City Council thought the implications of this through? Over 30,000 people in Saskatchewan are employed by the oil and natural gas industry.
This motion will do nothing in the fight against global emissions. All it does is condemn the livelihoods of thousands of Canadians.
Thank you Mayor Masters, Councillors Findura, Bresciania and Shaw for voting against this motion. I hope you can convince your colleagues to do the same.

We Need Canadian Energy
On the same day the Keystone XL pipeline was cancelled (a project with enormous economic importance to our province) 7 of our Regina Councillors made the decision to pile on one of our most important industries by listing them in the same breath as tobacco, and pornography?
How much tobacco and pornography does it take the City of Regina to function each year? This is an absurd comparison and I hope you and your colleagues will make the right decision and vote this down.
