Time to take Sprowls and Simpson to the woodshed
I want to thank you for your strong support of the Second Amendment in the past.
Gun Owners of America has recently reminded me how you openly stated during the Republican Sunshine Summit of 2018 that if you were Governor at the time, you’d have vetoed SB 7026. This was the gun control legislation that was passed by a Republican Supermajority Legislature and signed into law by then Republican Governor Rick Scott.
I would like to see this law repealed. Not only that, I would like to see pro-gun legislation advancing. But GOA has advised me of the unfortunate news that House Speaker Chris Sprowls and Senate President Wilton Simpson are squelching most of the pro-gun bills.
Rep. Sabatini’s pro-gun bills -- Campus Carry, Constitutional Carry, and the Repeal of the ban of ammo/gun sales during declared states of emergency -- are languishing in the House. And the only pro-gun bill in the Senate has been sent to die in a committee that is chaired by a Democrat.
Please show support for HB 123, HB 6001, HB 6005, HB 259, and SB 498. And please speak openly in support of the Second Amendment, using your position as Governor as a “bully pulpit” to encourage House and Senate leaders to advance these pro-gun bills.
Please note: It currently appears that HB 295, the Religious Institution Carry bill, is the only bill that is currently moving. But this is only a very minor improvement in the law. With Republican supermajorities in each chamber, Florida should be passing MULTIPLE pro-gun bills that greatly improve gun laws for the better.
As Floridians, we should be excelling in defending our 2A rights, yet for the past decade we have been falling behind. Our state was once known as the “Gunshine State.” We were a state that was proud in being proactive in expanding the rights of Floridians. The arguments that the gun-grabbers have claimed have been proven false. Almost twenty states have Constitutional Carry. And yet these states tend to have the lowest crime rates in the country.
Please openly support pro-gun legislation and use your office as the bully pulpit.
Gun Owners of America will keep me informed.
Please use your bully pulpit to advance pro-gun bills
