Vote Against H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446
As one who gets updates from Gun Owners of America, I want you to know that I oppose H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446.
For starters, H.R. 8 would require Brady Checks through dealers -- and 4473âs -- on virtually every private firearms transaction in the country. In other words, Universal Background REGISTRATION Checks
Even the Obama-Biden Administration recognized this in 2013, when a leaked memo from the Justice Department revealed its assessment of Universal Background Checks: âEffectiveness depends on the ability to reduce straw purchasing, requiring GUN REGISTRATION.â (emphasis added).
Also, please oppose this bill -- and H.R. 1446, which would greatly increase the amount of time it could take for someone to actually take home a purchased firearm.
Neither bill will prevent real bad guys from getting firearms. In fact, this legislation will only be used to criminalize otherwise innocent activity by honest Americans. I urge you to oppose both bills.
Bidenâs AG will not prevent indefinite delays for gun purchases
Did you see what Bidenâs nominee for Attorney General said?
Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) asked Merrick Garland whether the FBI can indefinitely delay firearms purchases.
How did Garland answer to this VERY important question? Astonishingly, Garland said that he had âno opinionâ!!!
This is outrageous. Please oppose H.R. 1446, which would greatly increase the amount of time it could take for someone to actually take home a purchased firearm.
And, please vote against H.R. 8, which would criminalize every transfer of a firearm unless it first goes through a government screening process -- aka, gun owner registration -- or unless the transfer fulfills one of the very few exemptions in the legislation.
Gun Owners of America tells me that because âtransferâ is not defined, even handing a gun to a neighbor could be severely punished.
Again, please vote against H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446.
Over 90% of mass shootings occur in Gun-Free Zones
Do not support efforts to âclean upâ H.R. 8 (which is gun owner registration) and H.R. 1446 (which will allow lengthy waiting period delays).
Regarding H.R. 1446, there has been a lot said about the so-called âCharleston loophole.â But the real loophole is the fact that Americans are prohibited from carrying guns in certain places -- or places that are known as âgun-free zones.â
The Charleston killer originally wanted to target a college, but he was dissuaded by the armed security that was there. So what did he do? He targeted a church, which was a gun-free zone.
This is the real âCharleston loopholeâ that needs to be eliminated. Congress should eliminate every gun free zone it can -- especially given that over 90% of mass shooters target these disarmament zones.
Gun Owners of America will keep me informed on these bills and on how every Representative votes.
The real âCharleston loopholeâ is the Gun-Free Zones where mass shootings occur

Donât even attempt to clean up bad bills like H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446

Even Obama admitted Universal Background Checks require registration

GOA is scoring H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446
Gun Owners of America is scoring votes in favor of H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446 as anti-gun votes.
H.R. 8 would require virtually everyone âtransferringâ a firearm, either temporarily or permanently to complete a NICS check. There are limited exceptions, but they are trap doors, set up to fool law-abiding gun owners trying to do the right thing.
So if a person gives a gun to their son in exchange for work around the house and yard -- but he doesnât get the governmentâs permission -- under H.R. 8, that person would be a criminal. So would the son.
If a person hands a gun to their neighbor to look at -- and then goes into the other room -- he or she is a felon. So is the neighbor.
If an elderly gun owner hears a noise downstairs in the middle of the night, and hands a gun to a son-in-law, both would be criminals if the noise turns out to be a stray dog.
Itâs been clear for a long time that Pelosi and her fellow Leftists want to abolish the private ownership of firearms.Â
If they can make the law so fraught with technicalities, they can make gun ownership technically illegal.
No wonder that in a poll of more than 17,000 gun owners, 92% stated that they would NOT vote to re-elect a legislator who votes for Universal Background Checks.
Also, please oppose H.R. 1446, which would greatly increase the amount of time it could take for someone to actually take home a purchased firearm.
Why are anti-gun Democrats penalizing self-defense but releasing criminals onto the street?
Please oppose H.R. 8 and H.R. 1446.
Under H.R. 8, says reporter Cam Edwards of BearingArms, someone could face âup to a year in federal prison simply for loaning a gun to her neighbor so she could protect herself if her abusive ex suddenly showed up at her home.â
But consider the hypocrisy, Edwards says. At a time when Democrats are moving to penalize self-defense with H.R. 8:
âDemocrats like San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin are adopting a catch-and-release approach to accused violent criminals like Allen Stewart, a 25-year old man whoâs been repeatedly arrested in recent months for a series of attacks on women, including once incident where heâs accused of trying to rape a woman while wearing an ankle monitor; a condition of his bond from an earlier arrest.â
I urge you to vote against H.R. 8. Also, please oppose H.R. 1446, which would greatly increase the amount of time it could take for someone to actually take home a purchased firearm.
Gun Owners of America will keep me informed.
Did you know that H.R. 1446 sends taxpayer monies to anti-gun organizations?
Here is yet another reason to oppose H.R. 1446. The Washington Free Beacon is reporting that this bill would âsteer taxpayer dollars to a leading gun-control ally to consult on a federal study of the background check system.â
Says the article: âMajority Whip Rep. James Clyburn's (D-SC) H.R. 1446 would require the attorney general to work with the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence and Firearms to report how the bill affects victims of domestic violence and empower the group to suggest other reforms. The center is a partner of the gun-control advocacy group Giffords Law Center, according to its website. The Giffords PAC spent more than $11 million backing Democratic candidates in the 2020 election.â
Gun Owners of America tweeted that, âIf House Republicans commissioned a pro-gun group to conduct a âstudy' on the effect of, say, concealed carry permits, House Democrats would be up in arms.â
The hypocrisy of anti-gun Democrats is disgusting.
It is outrageous that H.R. 1446 is helping to fund anti-gun groups. Please oppose this bill and oppose H.R. 8 which will impose a universal gun registry.
