Support SB 1111a to Increase Voter Participation in City Elections!
I am writing to you today to support Sen. Winder and Rep. DeMordaunt's bill (SB 1111a) that will create districts for Idaho's largest cities (100,000 or more people) as well as move city elections to even years.
Our city elections are crucial and should be of far more importance to Idahoans.
Unfortunately, participation rates in our city elections are much lower than our other elections taking place in even-numbered years.
By moving our city elections to even-numbered years, voter participation and interest in local government will increase dramatically. This would be a great outcome for the entire state.
Additionally, moving city elections to even-numbered years will also save taxpayers money as we conduct all of our major elections in even-numbered years.
Finally, the larger cities should have better representation so that citizens from all parts of a large city feel that they have someone in their local government who represents them.
Please vote "Yes" on SB 1111a today as currently amended.
