A record 39 MILLION guns were purchased last year. Those purchases were made by voters -- voters who will never forget if you voted to make it more difficult for law-abiding citizens like me to acquire a firearm. In a poll of more than 17,000 gun owners, 92% stated that they would NOT vote to re-elect a legislator who votes for Universal Background Checks. While politicians want to craft policy based on emotion, it’s time we also examine the facts. The tragic shooting in Colorado occurred at a grocery store whose corporate policy restricts the rights of law-abiding citizens to bear arms in Boulder, Colorado. Any of the gun control bills being considered -- from H.R. 8 to H.R 1446 or Dianne Feinstein’s ban on so-called “assault weapons” -- would not have prevented this evil-doer from getting his hands on a gun. In fact, Colorado is one of the few states in the union that already requires Universal Background Checks. These laws are a huge failure! The ONLY thing any of these gun restrictions would accomplish is taking guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens who are our only hope of stopping these tragic shootings. I urge you to stay true to your oath to uphold the Constitution, which undeniably includes the Second Amendment.
