House Bill 4359 is Good for Michigan
To help improve patient access to safe, high quality anesthesia care in Michigan, I’m writing as your constituent to ask you to vote for the Access to Safe Anesthesia Act, HB 4359.
Michigan health care costs are too high – and yet, our state has not done what 42 other states and the District of Columbia have done, which is to permanently eliminate the red tape and waste that unnecessary “supervision” requirements place on anesthesia services and the care delivered by Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs). When the COVID pandemic hit, Michigan public health emergency policy temporarily eliminated Michigan’s wasteful “supervision” requirement on CRNA care. CRNAs responded by answering the call and continuing to ensure patient safety and excellent patient outcomes.
It is time for that temporary policy to be made permanent in Michigan. The Access to Safe Anesthesia Act would allow hospitals and health care facilities to ensure anesthesia services are delivered safely – without the additional costs and barriers to care that exist because of unnecessary “supervision” requirements on highly educated CRNAs. The legislation has broad bipartisan support.
I look forward to your response and thank you for serving our community in the Legislature.
