Vote Against AB 227
As Nevadans return to work after over a year of devastating shutdowns, workers are looking to our leaders to protect jobs and our state economy. With all that is at stake, I am disappointed to learn that Nevada legislators are considering the passage of a bill that would virtually eliminate thousands of jobs with a stroke of a pen.
Many Nevadans, including recently discharged Veterans and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) entering the workforce, rely on private employment agencies (“PEAs”) to secure good-paying, temporary jobs in the construction industry. Licensed contractors utilize PEAs to hire skilled workers on a project-by-project basis, and these jobs are often a way for workers to secure full time employment.
But those opportunities will cease to exist if AB 227 passes. AB 227 eliminates the ability for private employment agencies to provide temporary job opportunities to skilled workers in the construction industry — resulting in lasting damage at a time when Nevada is attempting to rebuild our economy. And the dangerous precedent it establishes may further affect tens of thousands of additional Nevada jobs in other essential industries!
Nevada workers can’t afford to lose any more paychecks. Don’t let AB 227 permanently shut down these essential jobs.
I implore you to protect Nevada jobs by voting against AB 227.
