Please support the Born Alive Bill
I write to urge you to support the Human Rights (Children Born Alive Protection) Bill 2022.
It is shocking that babies in Australia are being born alive and left to die.
The bill remedies the fact Australia is in breach of two international agreements to which it is a signatory: The Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which recognise the right to life and the right of access to life-saving health care services. Thirty years ago, Australia became a ratified signatory of this convention.
In most Australian states, doctors are not required to provide medical assistance to children born alive following an abortion procedure. This is not only inhumane but goes against the basic right to life.
The Born Alive Bill will require medical practitioners to provide, under law, a child born alive during a late term abortion with assured medical care.
Children who survive an abortion are entitled to the same rights and medical treatment as are all human beings.
Please support this lifesaving legislation which ensures babies are not heartlessly left to die.
