Support Constitutional Carry – SB 118
As a citizen of Louisiana and a supporter of Gun Owners of America, I urge you to support SB 118.
The right to keep and bear arms is a God-given, fundamental right enumerated in both the United States Constitution and the Louisiana Constitution. As such, it is unacceptable that law-abiding citizens, such as myself, are forced to ask permission of the government to exercise their Second Amendment right to defend themselves, their families, and their communities.
SB 118 is one of several Constitutional Carry bills filed this session, the purpose of which is to push back on unconstitutional infringements. Under SB 118, a 21 year old, law-abiding Louisianan will be able to conceal carry a handgun without having to beg the government for a permit.
Passing SB 118 out of committee is an important step forward in restoring the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Louisianans, but it is only a step. All adult, law-abiding Louisianan’s (including 18-20 year olds) have the right to carry without begging the government for permission, and until those rights are restored, they remain infringed upon. (This protection is embodied in Constitutional Carry bill HB 16.)
Currently twenty other states recognize that Americans have the right to carry a gun for self-defense without first getting the government's permission to exercise their constitutional rights. These states, not coincidentally, are among the safest in the country.
It's well past time that Louisiana joined these states and repealed the unreasonable and unconstitutional limits on Louisianans’ exercise of their Second Amendment rights.
Please support SB 118.
