Gov. DeSantis, call for a Special Legislative Session
As a law-abiding resident of Florida -- who supports the right of people to own, carry and use firearms for any lawful purpose -- I am respectfully requesting that you call the legislature into a special session. As you are no doubt aware, Article III, Section 3 of the Florida Constitution specifically allows special legislative sessions.
The purpose of the special session would be to enact a Constitutional Carry law and a law declaring Florida to be a "Second Amendment Sanctuary," so that state and local police will not enforce Federal gun laws. Both of these important reasons for the special session would bring Florida into compliance with Article 1, Section 8 of the Florida Constitution and the Second Amendment to the US Constitution.
Twenty States have passed Constitutional Carry legislation, Forty-Five States have passed Open Carry legislation, six states have passed Second Amendment Sanctuary legislation.
And yet under Republican leadership, our legislature has run roughshod over gun owners' rights. This past session, we had a number of good pro-gun bills, and none of them passed out of their original chamber! Some of these committees were the very same ones that passed your “anti-riot” bill, HB 1.
Rep. Cord Byrd (R) said that he would not bring up for a vote HB 123, the Constitutional Carry bill, since it did not have a Senate Companion bill. Yet HB 1 had no Senate companion bill and that bill was brought up for a vote and passed all committees and both chambers -- ultimately reaching your desk for your signature.
We are now passing a decade of seeing Republican legislative leadership sidelining and blocking pro-gun legislation that would truly expand my gun rights.
Enough is enough. Gov. DeSantis, please call the legislature into a special session to vote on Constitutional Carry and a Second Amendment Sanctuary bill.

Why are Gun Rights not advancing in FL?
Florida is at a crossroads when it comes to gun rights.
We have had a Republican Supermajority for twenty years. The party and its legislative leadership claims that they are in office to protect and expand gun rights.
Yet the past decade has shown that to be false. Session after session, good solid pro-gun bills die in committee under Republican control.
In this past session, HB 1205 (a 2A sanctuary bill) has been blocked in the House's Criminal Justice & Public Safety Subcommittee chaired by Rep. Cord Byrd (R). This legislation is a real Second Amendment Sanctuary bill with teeth, and yet Rep. Byrd blocked it because he claimed that there was no Senate companion bill. Yet HB 1, the anti-riot bill, had no Senate companion bill and it advanced.

Our state was once known as the “Gunshine State.” But now, twenty states have surpassed us and passed Constitutional Carry laws. These states tend to have the lowest crime rates in the country, too.
Please call for a special session to advance the Second Amendment rights of Floridians. Use your position as Governor as a “bully pulpit.” In 2018, you campaigned as being a strong defender of the Florida's gun rights, and you even stated that if you were governor at the time, you'd have vetoed the gun control that was passed by the Republican Supermajority after the Parkland shooting.
You have the power which is vested to you by the people. Please take action and call for a special session to advance Constitutional Carry and a 2A sanctuary bill.

FL Gun Owners Demand a Special Session for Gun Rights
I want to thank you for your strong support of the Second Amendment in the past.
But currently, Florida is falling by the wayside. In over a decade of Republican leadership, solid pro-gun bills have been stalled and sidelined in the House and Senate. As such, I am respectfully requesting that you call the legislature into a special session.

As a law-abiding Floridian, it is shameful that other states are advancing the cause of liberty and the ability of its residents to protect themselves, but Florida is not. Utah, Iowa, Montana and now Tennessee have all signed Constitutional Carry bills into law, and Arizona just passed a Second Amendment Sanctuary bill into law, as well.
Twenty states have surpassed us by passing Constitutional Carry laws. And not surprisingly, these states tend to have the lowest crime rates in the country.
Why is Florida lagging behind?
With Republican supermajorities in each chamber, Florida should be passing MULTIPLE pro-gun bills that greatly improve gun laws for the better.
As Floridians, we should be the taking the lead and showing other states that we're proactive in regard to the expansion of gun rights.
Please speak openly in support of the Second Amendment, using your position as Governor as a “bully pulpit” to encourage House and Senate leaders to advance these pro-gun bills.
Call for a special session for Constitutional Carry and a Second Amendment Sanctuary bill.
