Make sure all user pay the same.
North Carolina currently relies on user fees to fund the construction, maintenance, and operation of the state’s transportation system. A user fee is paid by users of the transportation system through various methods. An example is a driver’s license or vehicle registration fee, the Highway Use Tax, or the “Gas Tax.”
Right now, there are different types of vehicle owners and users of our transportation system that are not paying their fair share to help maintain and improve our roads and bridges. Legislators should consider making sure all users pay the same – it is a matter of fairness.
We need fairness and equity.
Gas Tax revenues are North Carolina’s largest funding source for transportation infrastructure.
As cars become more fuel-efficient or carmakers transition to hybrid and electric vehicles, the Gas Tax will become a more unreliable revenue source to fund our transportation needs.

Fair share.
North Carolina collected a total of $5.0 billion in revenue – most of which was derived from user-based sources such as the state gas tax and vehicle registration fees - for maintenance and investment in our roads and bridges.
