Florida Needs Conservative Action on Climate Change
As a conservative voter, I am very concerned about the impacts to our state from climate change. It is hurting our agriculture and tourism industries, threatening our property values, and increasing our tax burden due to increased infrastructure costs. Our livelihood and quality of life are at risk, and we need you to do something about it.
Climate change is a problem we simply can no longer afford to cede to the left. We need conservative leadership that actually offers solutions.
A number bi-partisan climate bills in Congress offer such an opportunity. One such bill is the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (H.R. 763), crafted by President Reagan's Chief of Staff, James Baker, and his Secretary of State, George Schulz.
This legislation would reduce greenhouse gas pollution by placing a carbon fee on fossil fuels to incentivize other energy sources and spur innovation. All of the money collected from the fee would fund a dividend back to taxpayers like me to spend as we see fit.
Unlike the left's overly broad and unworkable "Green New Deal," this legislation is market-friendly and revenue neutral. The government would not keep any of the revenue generated from the fee. There are many other sensible policies to address climate change, but they will never happen without common sense, conservative leadership.
I strongly encourage you to be a leader on climate and co-sponsor legislation, such as the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, to significantly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. Doing nothing is no longer a viable option.
As President Reagan wisely pointed out about protecting our planet, "This is our patrimony. This is what we leave to our children. And our great moral responsibility is to leave it to them either as we found it or better than we found it."
Thank you for your attention to this. I look forward to your response.
