Everyone knows that Idaho is in the midst of a massive demographic shift, as Californians, Washingtonians, and Oregonians move into our state in record numbers. It’s also no secret that some of these peoples are bringing a very liberal ideology along with them. That’s why I am urging you to co-sponsor Senator Christy Zito’s Stand-Your-Ground Expansion legislation which would plug the gaps in Idaho’s current self-defense laws. This legislation would provide criminal immunity to gun owners who use justifiable/reasonable force as well as establishing a pre-trial hearing process so that gun owners can assert their criminal immunity protections BEFORE their lives are turned upside down by a politically motived prosecution. Please make this one of your top priorities in 2022. Out state is changing, and there is no telling how long we will have a pro-gun majority in Boise. When the legislature passed Stand-Your-Ground several years ago, Idaho took steps in the right direction for law abiding gun owners who are forced to defend themselves against violent criminals. But as is so often the case, moderate politicians stripped some of the most important pieces out of this legislation. That’s why I am writing to you today. As a voter in your district, I to urge you to cosponsor the Stand-Your-Ground Expansion legislation being sponsored by Senator Christy Zito. This legislation will provide badly needed criminal immunity protections to gun owners who use reasonable force in a self-defense situation. It will also provide for a pre-trial immunity hearing for gun owners and require the state to pay my legal expenses if I am found not guilty in criminal court. Gun owners across the country were stunned when Mark and Patricia McCloskey were indicted by a Soros-funded prosecutor in pro-gun Missouri in 2020. After all, they were clearly defending themselves from an out-of-control mob. But the truth is that until Idaho passes Senator Zitos’ legislation, gun owners right here in Idaho are vulnerable to the same sort of politically motivated prosecutions.
