As your constituent, I am writing you to urge you to support HB 305 to end cannabis prohibition in Delaware this year. HB 305 would legalize personal possession of cannabis, promote equity and inclusion in the legal industry from communities disproportionately impacted by cannabis prohibition, and reinvest a portion of tax revenue into disproportionately impacted communities. Our neighbor, New Jersey, has moved forward with legalization. It’s time for Delaware to follow suit. Can I count on you to support HB 305?

The nationwide momentum for cannabis policy reform is stronger than ever, with 18 states having legalized cannabis for adults. It’s past time Delaware follows suit. The longer the General Assembly waits to forward with legalization, Delawareans will continue to face the harms of prohibition, including police interactions, arrests, and a dangerous illicit market. The state will also miss out on a much needed new source of jobs and revenue. Cannabis prohibition is a waste of taxpayer resources. It’s time to take a more sensible approach — legalizing, taxing, and regulating cannabis for adults 21 and older. Please end cannabis prohibition this year, and support HB 305 to legalize and regulate cannabis for adults.

By legalizing cannabis and establishing a regulated market for adults 21 and older, Delaware can further reduce the number of cannabis-related arrests and citations, create a new source of revenue and good jobs for the state, and boost public health and public safety. New Jersey and 17 other states have moved forward with adult-use legalization. Delaware must meet the moment and follow suit. Will you support HB 305?
