Give the Surplus Back to Minnesotans
I am writing to urge you to give back the state budget surplus directly to Minnesota families and taxpayers immediately. Please do not wait for the end of the session in May or worse yet during a special session. A $17.6 billion budget surplus means only one thing: the state collected way more than it needs to fund our priorities.
With inflation and gas prices still way above pre-pandemic levels, the cost of living is higher than expected for most Minnesota households, including mine! A tax refund check during the first month of session will be well received. And besides, it’s our money in the first place.
Minnesota’s rainy-day fund is the strongest it’s ever been and government at all levels recently received billions of dollars from the Federal government to handle the pandemic. It’s time to make taxpayers a priority by cutting taxes and returning one-time surplus money to us.
The 2023 legislative session will be considered a failure if we don’t permanently cut tax rates with a $17.6 billion surplus.
Please don’t fail us! Please GIVE IT BACK!
It's Our Surplus, Give It Back!
