Please end cannabis prohibition in Maryland in 2022!
As your constituent, I write to encourage you to legalize, tax, and regulate cannabis for adults in 2022.
There are now 18 states + D.C. that have moved forward with legalization, and Maryland is lagging behind. Every year, despite the decriminalization of very small amounts of cannabis, thousands of Marylanders are arrested for simple cannabis possession, resulting in a criminal record that affects access to employment, housing, financial aid, and other public benefits.
The longer Maryland waits to move forward with legalization, the longer it will subject its residents to the harms of prohibition and miss out on much needed economic growth.
Will you support ending cannabis prohibition in 2022?
Will you support legalizing cannabis for adults in 2022?
As your constituent, I am writing to ask that you support legalizing cannabis in 2022
and ensure legalization is rooted in equity and restorative justice.
By legalizing cannabis and establishing a regulated market for adults 21 and older,
Maryland can further reduce the number of cannabis-related arrests being made,
create a new source of revenue and good jobs for the state, and begin to repair the
decades of harm that cannabis prohibition has caused, particularly in communities
of color.
Can I count on you to support legalizing cannabis in 2022?
Make 2022 the year Maryland legalizes cannabis
As your constituent, I urge you to support legalizing and regulating cannabis for adults this year.
By legalizing cannabis and establishing a regulated market for adults 21 and older, Maryland can further reduce the number of cannabis-related arrests being made, create a new source of revenue and good jobs for the state, and boost public health and public safety.
There are now 18 other states, including neighboring Virginia, that have legalized cannabis for adults, but Maryland is lagging behind.
Marylanders deserve a just, equitable cannabis policy. Please make 2022 the year Maryland ends cannabis prohibition.
