As your constituent, I'm writing to urge you to vote YES on HB 305 to end cannabis prohibition in Delaware this year. HB 305 would legalize personal possession of cannabis, promote equity and inclusion in the legal industry from communities disproportionately impacted by cannabis prohibition, and reinvest a portion of tax revenue into disproportionately impacted communities. Our neighbor, New Jersey, has already moved forward with legalization. It’s time for Delaware to follow suit. Can I count on you to support HB 305?

Please end cannabis prohibition this year, and support HB 305 to legalize and regulate cannabis for adults. Cannabis prohibition is a waste of taxpayer resources. It’s time to take a more sensible approach — legalizing, taxing, and regulating cannabis for adults 21 and older. The nationwide momentum for cannabis policy reform is stronger than ever, with 18 states having legalized adults. It’s past time Delaware follows suit. The longer the General Assembly waits to move forward with legalization, Delawareans will continue to face the harms of prohibition, including police interactions, arrests, and a dangerous illicit market. The state will also miss out on a much-needed new source of jobs and revenue. Will you vote YES on HB 305?

More than 70% of Delawareans support legalizing cannabis. Eighteen other states and Canada have taken this more sensible approach. I hope you agree it’s past time for Delaware to follow suit. Cannabis is safer than alcohol – it doesn’t cause fatal overdoses and isn’t linked to violence. Our government should not be punishing adults for using cannabis responsibly, nor should it be driving sales to the unregulated, underground market.
