The secret ballot is the cornerstone of a healthy democracy. Your recent legislation taking that right away in union certification votes hurts B.C. workers, and should be abandoned immediately. Please follow the advice of your own Labour Relations Code Review Panel: “The secret ballot vote is the most consistent with our democratic norms, protects the fundamental right of freedom of association and choice, and is preferred.” We use secret ballots for almost every important vote -- including your election. Workers should have the same right to a secret ballot for decisions that profoundly affect their employment. Save the secret ballot!

Your recent legislation to bring in card check denies workers of the democratic right to a secret ballot; of the right to make important career decisions with no undue influence; of the right to a regulated voting process, overseen by an independent agency; of the ability to get information before choosing between options; and of their right to privacy.
