Tell Congress to Support Care-in-the-Home by Extending Telehealth Flexibilities
I am writing to strongly urge you to support the Advancing Telehealth Beyond COVID-19 Act (H.R. 4040), which the House passed 416-12 on July 27, 2022. This bill will extend through 2024 key telehealth flexibilities that are supporting home health and hospice providers' ability to deliver high-quality, safe, and efficient care to some of the most vulnerable patients in our health care system.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, home health and hospice patients, their families, and providers have benefited from new telehealth flexibilities that have facilitated greater and easier access to vital home-based services. Our community needs these allowances to remain in place so we can continue to meet growing demand, especially amidst the current unprecedented health care staffing challenges.
The Advancing Telehealth Beyond COVID-19 Act (H.R. 4040) will keep many of these allowances in place through 2024, which will be a great boon to continuing the shift to a more home-based care system. Perhaps the most impactful specific flexibilities for the care-at-home community include those that allow the hospice face-to-face recertification to be performed virtually, as well as the loosening of geographic and originating site restrictions that are enabling telehealth in patient's own homes.
Please support HR 4040 so that we can continue innovating to serve patients and families in a high-quality and innovative way!
