We need the moratorium on no-fault evictions to continue
The current protections against no-fault evictions are expiring Sept. 30, and many San Diego tenants, including families and seniors, will suddenly be at risk of homelessness. I am writing to urge you to support extending the no-fault eviction moratorium in San Diego beyond the 30th. Please stand with the thousands of San Diego tenants who will be vulnerable to housing insecurity and homelessness if protections are allowed to lapse.
No-fault evictions should not be happening in a time when many San Diegans are still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and struggle to pay for rent, food and utilities. Tenants shouldn’t have to worry that, despite honoring the terms of their lease, their landlord can evict them for any reason. Before the current emergency moratorium on no-fault evictions was implemented, we saw too many tenants being evicted simply because their landlord wants to remodel or move back into their property. Unnecessary evictions would only accelerate homelessness in San Diego.
I ask that you act to prevent San Diegans from being needlessly thrown out of their homes and onto the street. We need to ensure tenants have enough time and money to be able to move and not end up homeless. Please support extending just-cause protections and give all San Diego tenants the relief they need and deserve.

Please move to extend the no-fault eviction moratorium
I want to thank you for standing with San Diego tenants and leading the way to an emergency moratorium on no-fault evictions. Now I am asking for your help again to ensure these protections continue beyond Sept.30. Thanks to you, Mr. Council President, San Diego tenants, including seniors and families with children, were able to breathe more easily during the moratorium. But if these protections you helped shape are allowed to expire at the end of September, thousands of San Diegans will once again become vulnerable to housing insecurity and homelessness.
