Bring Chicago Home Will Bring Safety for West Side copy
Over 58,000 people in Chicago are experiencing homelessness. This includes people living on the streets, in shelters and doubled-up. This may just sound like a number to you, but this is impacting a significant amount of people ranging from households living paycheck to paycheck, veterans, survivors of domestic violence and students. Chicago must do more to provide housing for people to get back on their feet. I am asking you to support and help pass the Bring Chicago Home resolution, which is the first step to change the real estate transfer tax in Chicago on properties over $1 million AND dedicate the additional revenue to preserve and create housing for people experiencing all forms of homelessness.
Please step up and be a leader on this issue. Chicago is counting on you.
Supporting the Bring Chicago Home Initiative
Housing is a universal human need and thousands of Chicagoans lack safe & stable housing to this day. It has been reported that 58,000 people were experiencing homelessness in Chicago (before COVID), and 1 of 4 were children. I support the Bring Chicago Home campaign and its initiative to generate an estimated $160 million a year to support housing and wraparound services for people experiencing homelessness. The proposal would provide permanent supportive housing to over 12,000 families in the next 10 years.
I am asking that you engage with the Bring Chicago Home coalition and become a leader on behalf of this issue.

Homelessness is becoming a crisis in Chicago and our city must do more to address it. How can we truly address violence, mental health and education if people do not have a place to call home? I am asking you to support the Bring Chicago Home campaign. The best way to address this issue for over 58,000 Chicagoans experiencing homelssness is to secure more resources for housing.
I am calling on you to engage the Bring Chicago Home coalition and find out how you can be a leader on this issue.
Invested Citizen in Support of Bring Chicago Home
Homelessness touches every corner of the city of Chicago. It’s a long-standing problem that can only be solved with your help. Compared to the top 10 cities with the largest homeless counts, Chicago ranks 9th out of 11 in terms of spending to address this human rights violation. This is what makes your support so critical. I’m asking you to support the Bring Chicago Home campaign. By using a tax that would provide a dedicated revenue stream for homeless support services, Chicago would be taking a step in the right direction.
I encourage you to consider what you want your city to look like. Every citizen in your ward deserves a home, and you can support a campaign to make that happen.
Support Our Unhoused Neighbors and Bring Chicago Home
It may be easy for some to forget, but every unsheltered homeless individual we see in our neighborhood is a fellow Chicago resident and neighbor. More than that, I have become aware of many homeless in Chicago that we do not see. Individuals, children and families live with uncertainty, “doubled-up” in homes and apartments relying on the generosity of acquaintances. According to a study reported on WTTW in August, as many as 1 in 7 CPS students are experiencing some form of homelessness. The latest expert estimates show that 58,000 Chicagoans are in this houseless predicament. Housing is an issue that the City of Chicago needs to address in a coordinated and sustained fashion. That’s why I want the city council to support the “Bring Chicago Home” campaign and increase the real estate transfer tax for properties valued at $1 million or more. If you are already planning on supporting such actions, your work is much appreciated. If not, I strongly encourage you to do so.
Sustained funding for affordable housing and services: Bring Chicago Home
According to the current city budget there is a “once-in-a-generation series of investments'' that allocates “$635 million to maintain and expand affordable housing”. This sounds wonderful, but it is not sustainable beyond this budget year. The issue of homelessness needs a policy driven approach with sustained funding. Just like my friends and neighbors here in the ward, I want to see improvements in the quality of all our lives. As many as 58,000 individuals (including families) are unhoused city-wide and cannot live to their potential. One in four of these are children. We all pay a price for this. Please support the “Bring Chicago Home'' initiative and increase the Real Estate Transfer Tax on properties valued at $1million or more. This will fund improving the lives of thousands of our homeless neighbors and the future of all Chicago.
Support Bring Chicago Home
There are more than 58,000 people across Chicago experiencing homelessness. Homelessness is more than couch surfing, staying on the streets or in shelters. It’s a human rights violation that takes away a person’s feeling of safety and security. It robs your constituents of opportunities.
But you have the ability to change that. I am encouraging you to support the Bring Chicago Home campaign. This campaign proposes a one-time tax that would affect less than 5.2% of transactions of the homes sold every year—and only those worth more than $1 million. These funds would then be used to alleviate homelessness in your city.
I believe in this campaign and its ability to help your constituents. If you already are a supporter of Bring Chicago Home, I thank you and encourage you to continue to advocate and educate on its behalf.
I encourage you to learn about the benefits of Bring Chicago Home and its ability to positively contribute to the 28th ward.
Securing Safe & Stable Housing
Safe and stable housing is an essential part of families & communities thriving. However, the issue of homeslessness is one that affects over 58,000 people in the city of Chicago. A lack of shelter exposes homeless people to the wind, rain and snow, while a lack of income prevents them from buying clothing to keep them warm and hygiene products to keep them healthy. The issue of homelessness needs a policy driven approach with sustained funding. The “Bring Chicago Home'' initiative and increased the Real Estate Transfer Tax on properties valued at $1million or more. This tax proposal would create a dedicated revenue stream for affordable housing and wraparound services to those experiencing homelessness.
This proposal could also house over 12,000 families in the next 10 years.
