Don't Include COS in Special Session
I urge you to NOT include SJR 52 or a similar COS resolution in the special session. Instead, please tell the Legislature to rescind all of Texas's applications for an Article V convention.
So far this year, at least seven Republican-controlled legislatures (MT, WY, IA, KS, VA, NH, and SD) have all rejected COS Article V convention resolutions.
Constitutionalists in all levels of government agree: the solution to our out-of-control federal government is Not an Article V constitutional convention, or so-called "convention of states;" please watch this under-3-minute-long video rumble.com/v28kh66-dont-be-conned-into-an-article-v-convention
I urge you to read the following op-ed by former Secretary of Defense Melvin Laird warning of the perils of convening a convention: jbs.org/assets/pdf/Melvin-Laird-Con-Con-1984-Original.pdf
An Article V convention is a dangerous idea that could wipe out the Constitution and the God-given freedoms it protects. Instead of trying to change our Constitution, we need to begin enforcing it.
Just because the Constitution isn't being enforced now, doesn't mean we should throw it away.
Please don't include SJR 25 or a similar COS resolution in the special session.
Reject COS/Article V for Special Session: Article V Convention Would Destroy Our Country
I strongly request that you DON'T include any COS/Article V resolution in the special session. Please oppose SJR 52 from the regular session, and please also call upon the Legislature to rescind all existing applications for a convention.
Any convention would have damaging and unintended consequences for our nation.
The socialist Left will hijack any Article V convention to push its agenda. They would love any opportunity to change the U.S. Constitution.
Meanwhile, Constitutionalists all across the country oppose an Article V Convention -- just this year, the legislatures of South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Kansas, Virginia, Iowa, New Hampshire, and others all voted down similar resolutions. Furthermore, please see this short three minute video: youtu.be/Q60OK1LmIKQ
Please read this article by former DoD Secretary Melvin Laird warning of the national security dangers of an Article V Convention: jbs.org/assets/pdf/Melvin-Laird-Con-Con-1984-Original.pdf
The very premise behind an Article V convention is false -- that there are "problems" with the U.S. Constitution that can only be fixed by changing it. This isn't true -- rather, the real problem is that we haven't actually been following the Constitution.
The solution is to start abiding by the Constitution. I urge you to nullify every law that violates the Constitution. This is a much safer and appropriate place to start, rather than changing the Constitution.
Accordingly, please leave out SJR 52 (or any other COS/Article V resolution) from the special session.
Stop SJR 52 -- Rescind All Article V Convention Applications
Please keep the sunset clause for Texas' COS application, and DON'T include COS or SJR 52 on the agenda for the special session.
I encourage you to read the following op-ed by former Defense Secretary Melvin Laird warning of the national-security consequences of a Con-Con: jbs.org/assets/pdf/Melvin-Laird-Con-Con-1984-Original.pdf
I also encourage you to watch this three-minute video of some well-known Constitutionalists discussing an Article V convention: youtu.be/Q60OK1LmIKQ
Related to the above, just in the beginning of 2023, the Republican legislatures of at least seven states -- Montana, Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming, Virginia, New Hampshire, and Kansas -- all voted against COS's Con-Con resolutions.
A convention would be disastrous for our Republic, as it could reverse the Constitution's existing limitations on government.
We need to start enforcing and abiding by the Constitution -- not changing it. If we enforce it as already written, the vast majority of the federal government would be declared unconstitutional.
Because of all this, please keep off SJR 52 or other COS-related resolutions from the special session agenda.
Omit SJR 52/COS In Special Session
Please omit SJR 52 or any similar COS/Article V resolution from the special session. Please also call upon the Legislature to rescind all applications for a Con-Con.
So far in 2023, the GOP-controlled legislatures in Wyoming, Montana, Iowa, Kansas, South Dakota, Virginia, New Hampshire, and other states have all voted down similar COS applications.
Please also see this article by former Defense Secretary Melvin Laird explaining why a convention would be dangerous for our country for national security reasons: jbs.org/assets/pdf/Melvin-Laird-Con-Con-1984-Original.pdf
An Article V Convention is an unnecessary and dangerous idea. There's a reason why our Constitution has been the supreme law of the land for well over 200 years -- it's one of the greatest documents ever created and strongly protects individual freedom.
Changing the Constitution would only lead to a major expansion of government, since the Constitution already strongly limits the federal government. The actual problem is that it's being ignored. Many Constitutionalists in all levels of government agree; please take a look at this short video: youtu.be/Q60OK1LmIKQ
We need to start enforcing the Constitution, not changing it. Because of this, please DON'T include SJR 52 or any other COS/Article V resolution on the special-session agenda.
Oppose Article V Convention From Special Sessions
I urge you to reject the inclusion of SJR 52/COS/Article V on the agenda for the special session.
It's imperative that you keep in place the sunset clause (in SJR 38 of the 85th Regular Session), which will allow SJR 2 from the 85th Regular Session to expire. Please DON'T renew SJR 2 (nor expand the sunset period), and DON'T pass SJR 52.
This year, at least seven conservative state legislatures (MT, SD, WY, IA, KS, VA, NH) voted against similar resolutions for an Article V constitutional convention. Many constitutional conservatives oppose an Article V constitutional convention. Please watch this short, 3-min. video that shows some of their opposition: youtu.be/Q60OK1LmIKQ
I also encourage you to read the following editorial from Melvin Laird, the former U.S. Secretary of Defense. He recognized serious national-security risks that a convention would pose: jbs.org/assets/pdf/Melvin-Laird-Con-Con-1984-Original.pdf
I don't care what specific changes to our Constitution these applications call for -- a Con-Con is a dangerous idea that could lead to unintended and harmful consequences for our Constitution.
This process is extremely risky and could give us a completely new Constitution. With such risk, we must rescind every Con-Con application.
As already written, the U.S. Constitution strongly protects our individual liberties. But the solution is to enforce the Constitution, not to change it. And, we must fully enforce it without tolerating any lack of enforcement.
So, please reject the inclusion of any COS or Article V convention resolution (including one similar to SJR 52 of the regular legislative session) in the special session.
