Restore Constitutional Money in Maine
I urge you to take strong action to restore sound money and bring our state closer to returning to the U.S. Constitution's monetary provisions.
The rampant inflation we've been seeing goes back to the unconstitutional Federal Reserve and our abandonment of constitutional money. The U.S. dollar has lost over 97 percent of its purchasing power since 1913, and the Fed's policies are ensuring that it will continue to become increasingly worthless.
Any proposals should do the following:
-- Recognize gold and silver as legal tender
-- End all taxes on gold and silver
-- Create a state bullion depository
Already, multiple other states have adopted some or all of the above policies. Maine should too.
Not only will these policies allow gold and silver to be treated as money -- as they ought -- but they will help reduce our state's financial independence on the federal government, specifically the Federal Reserve. These bills also will help our state avoid the federal government's planned "Central Bank Digital Currencies," which severely threaten privacy and individual freedom.
Please fully restore sound money in Maine.
Nullify the Federal Reserve
I strongly request that you enforce the U.S. Constitution and nullify the Federal Reserve's unconstitutional monopoly on money.
The Federal Reserve has absolutely no constitutional basis. However, it has an inordinate amount of power over our country's finances and economy -- and the U.S. dollar has lost 97% of its value since the Fed's creation in 1913.
State officials -- including legislators -- have a duty, under Article VI of the U.S. Constitution, to uphold the Constitution and reject all laws not "made in Pursuance thereof." Also, nullifying the Federal Reserve would be a big step toward upholding the Constitution's provisions regarding money, while also protecting us from the federal government's plans for a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), which will even further erode our privacy.
Please enforce the U.S. Constitution by nullifying the Federal Reserve's monopoly on money.
Restore Constitutional Money
Please restore constitutional money in Maine.
The U.S. Constitution recognizes only gold and silver as legal tender. Specifically, I refer to Article I, Section 8, Clause 5 and Article I, Section 10, Clause 1. Fiat money is not recognized.
This is for good reason. When we abandoned adherence to the Constitution, inflation skyrocketed. The dollar has lost 97% of its value since 1913, and this is devastating to the younger generations.
Please return our state to constitutional adherence by recognizing gold and silver as legal tender. Please take action now.
Restore Monetary Sanity -- Follow the U.S. Constitution
Please take action to restore sanity in our monetary policy by enacting the following proposals:
-- Officially recognize gold and silver coins as legal tender;
-- Eliminate all taxes on gold and silver, thus treating gold and silver as money; and
-- Establishing a state bullion depository, which would encourage the use of gold and silver in everyday financial transactions.
Because of the Federal Reserve and its unconstitutional monopoly on money, the U.S. dollar has lost 97% of its values since 1913. And now, the Fed is pushing to create Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), which will decimate our privacy.
The above proposals -- which other states have adopted -- would reduce our dependence on the Federal Reserve, comply with Article I, Section 10, of the U.S. Constitution, and restore a sound monetary policy. Please enact these policies.
Bring Back Sound Money -- Enforce the U.S. Constitution
I implore you to enact strong policies restoring sound money in Maine. This would also be a major step toward enforcing the U.S. Constitution when it comes to monetary policy.
Article I, Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution requires states to make only gold and silver "a Tender in Payment of Debts." Unfortunately, we've long abandoned this important provision. The result is the devaluation of the dollar, which is hurting Mainers -- along with our children's and grandchildren's futures.
It’s long overdue that states begin to enforce this provision once again.
In fact, federal law, specifically 18 U.S. Code § 486, even prohibits using gold and silver as sound money, "except as authorized by law." This is blatantly unconstitutional, and I urge you to take action to enforce the U.S. Constitution.
Please adhere to the U.S. Constitution above all else, and restore sound money in our state.
