NO to proposed location of Clackamas County homeless shelter
Dear Clackamas County Commissioners,
I am writing to express my opposition to the recently approved project to convert the Quality Inn on Sunnyside Rd into a homeless shelter. While I understand the need for homeless services, I believe that this location is ill-suited for such a facility.
Placing a homeless shelter in the middle of a thriving commercial area, such as the one surrounding Clackamas Town Center, is not in the best interest of the community or the individuals being served. This area serves as a major hub for businesses and their customers, and the presence of a homeless shelter would have negative effects on both.
I believe that it is important to consider the impact of a homeless shelter on the surrounding community, as well as the needs of those it serves. I strongly encourage the county commissioners to reconsider the location of this project and find a more suitable location that balances the needs of the community and those in need of homeless services.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Find an alternative location for the proposed homeless shelter in Clackamas County
Dear Clackamas County Commissioners,
I am writing to express my concern regarding the recent decision to convert the Quality Inn on Sunnyside Rd into a homeless shelter. This location is not suitable for a homeless shelter as it is situated in a commercial area near Clackamas Town Center and in the middle of a commercial district.
Having a homeless shelter in this area will not only be disruptive to the local businesses and their customers, but also create safety concerns for the community. The commercial area is heavily populated and congested, and adding a homeless shelter to this mix could lead to increased crime rates and public health issues.
The cost of purchasing the hotel is $15,000,000. The hotel reportedly has 95 rooms, bringing the cost to $158,000 per unit before any costs are sunk into the property for refurbishing or repurposing. This type of spending seems especially wasteful.
I urge the commissioners to reconsider this decision and find a more appropriate location for the homeless shelter. I believe that this is a critical issue and deserves a more thoughtful solution that will be in the best interest of everyone involved.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my concerns.
