Women in prostitution need exit strategies
I’m writing to ask you to oppose decriminalising prostitution in Queensland, and to instead enact the Equality/Nordic Model of Prostitution Law Reform which:
• Decriminalises the selling of sex
• Criminalises the buying of sex
• Prosecutes third parties to prostitution (the pimps)
• Provides support and pathways out of prostitution
The majority of women enter prostitution not because of real choice but because of lack of meaningful options to make a decent living, experiences of childhood and adult abuse, coercion, and substance misuse.
The Equality/Nordic Model decriminalises the selling of sex, but restrains exploitation by criminalising the buying of sex and third party profiteering, and most importantly, provides meaningful exit strategies for those in prostitution.
This model has proven in many countries to be in the best interests of vulnerable women. Please support the Equality/Nordic Model for Queensland.
Join the global move to the Equality Model
The Equaity/Nordic Model of Prostitution Law Reform has proven to be more effective than decriminalising prostitution – so I urge you to adopt it in Queensland.
This model has been enacted in Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Canada, Northern Ireland, France, Ireland and Israel. It is being promoted in the UK Parliament.
It decriminalises the selling of sex, but restrains exploitation by criminalising the buying of sex and third party profiteering. Most importantly, it provides meaningful exit strategies for those in prostitution.
Queensland should follow suit and be the first Australian state to adopt the Equality/Nordic Model which:
• Decriminalises the selling of sex
• Criminalises the buying of sex
• Prosecutes third parties to prostitution (the pimps)
• Provides support and pathways out of prostitution
Please support it!
Lead the nation in adopting the Equality/Nordic Model
I’d like to ask the Queensland Parliament not to decriminalise prostitution, but to fully explore the Equality/Nordic Model of Prostitution Law Reform which:
• Decriminalises the selling of sex
• Criminalises the buying of sex
• Prosecutes third parties to prostitution (the pimps)
• Provides support and pathways out of prostitution
There is abundant evidence that decriminalising prostitution is harmful to women. On the other hand, the Equality/Nordic Model has proven in many countries to reduce trafficking and increase safety for women.
Queensland should become the first state to reject prostitution decriminalisation and adopt the Equality/Nordic Model.
Please use your influence to help introduce the Equality/Nordic Model.
Adopt the Equality/Nordic Model - not decriminalisation
I’m asking you as my elected member of the Queensland Parliament to reject prostitution decriminalisation, and to instead advocate for the Equality/Nordic Model of Prostitution Law Reform which:
• Decriminalises the selling of sex
• Criminalises the buying of sex
• Prosecutes third parties to prostitution (the pimps)
• Provides support and pathways out of prostitution
The Equality Model has proven in many countries to reduce the demand for prostitution, and so reduce the amount of prostituted people and the harm caused by it. It also provides meaningful exit strategies for prostitutes.
This is a far better option than fully decriminalising prostitution, which has an undeniable link to an increased rate of trafficking.
Please support the Equality/Nordic Model for Queensland.
