A digital currency would amount to a massive expansion of government power. Not only would the government be able to view all transactions -- obliterating our privacy -- but it would be able to "set the rules" and even ban transactions it disagrees with. Giving such massive power to the government is dangerous and threatens our liberty. Accordingly, please oppose a digital currency, and enact HB 163 and HB 155.

The federal government is currently considering creating a central bank digital currency (CBDC). This development is dangerous, as under a centralized digital currency, the government could view all our transactions. This would amount to an all-out surveillance state and would give the government significant control over our lives -- this is unacceptable and dangerous. However, Ohio can prevent this by banning any CBDC within its borders. Please protect our privacy by enacting HB 163 and HB 155.

A CBDC would give the government unprecedented power over our everyday lives. Unlike physical currency, the government can have full control over a CBDC, including how we are allowed to spend it. Our country was founded under the principle of a limited government that guarantees -- rather than decimate -- our liberties. A digital currency could undo that principle by giving the federal government vast powers over our lives. There would be no checks on the government's ability to control what transactions are allowed and disallowed with a digital currency. If the government doesn't like what we're spending our money on, it could prevent such transactions or even shut down our accounts. This is frightening. We saw Big Tech companies shut down their digital payment systems in Russia. This could be replicated in the United States under a digital currency. Please reject any digital currency, and support HB 163 and HB 155.

I implore you to enact HB 163 and HB 155, to stop a digital currency from being implemented in our state. A centralized digital currency is a serious threat to privacy. The government will be able to view our transactions, and if it doesn't like what we're paying for, it could prevent those transactions or even freeze our accounts. In a free society, we don't have to worry about the government scrutinizing our every transaction. A central bank digital currency, on the other hand, would implement a security state. I implore you to stop a central bank digital currency by enacting HB 163 and HB 155.
