Don’t disarm veterans
The men and women who risked their lives to defend our country shouldn’t have to risk losing their constitutional rights when they access life-saving mental health treatment.
Which is why, as your constituent and a supporter of Gun Owners of America, I’m asking you to vote in favor of Mike Bost’s amendment to H.R. 4366 that would protect veterans from being disarmed without adequate due process.
For years, government bureaucrats have abused the unconstitutional “fiduciary rule” to arbitrarily report veterans to the NICS background check database.
As a result, more than 250,000 veterans have lost access to their Second Amendment rights and can no longer access or possess a firearm.
All without committing any crime, without the constitutional due process necessary for the deprivation of a right, and sometimes without knowing or consenting to it.
The Bost amendment would prohibit the VA from transmitting information to the NICS solely on the basis that a veteran has an appointed fiduciary to manage their benefits unless there is an order or finding of a judicial authority that such a veteran is a danger to themselves or others.
I sincerely hope you’ll stand up for America’s veterans by supporting this common-sense amendment – and Gun Owners of America will continue to keep me informed.
