DEFUND the ATF’s new UBC rule
Gun Owners of America just alerted me that the ATF has officially published a new rule essentially creating backdoor Universal Background Registration Checks.
The rule would require a Federal Firearm License (FFL) and a background check on ANY firearm transaction where the ATF deems that any kind of "profit" is made.
Even if it’s just a single firearm!
In essence, the ATF is virtually OUTLAWING private firearm transactions to ensure they get their hands on people’s personal information and transaction records for their illegal gun registry.
And while they try to close off private purchases by forcing all sales to be conducted through federally licensed dealers, they’re also abusing their authority to put as many of those dealers out of business as possible.
Pretty soon, it will be difficult for law-abiding Americans like me to purchase a firearm anywhere.
Even if you overlook the fact that the rule is flat out unconstitutional, it doesn’t provide clear guidelines and is ripe for abuse by overzealous ATF bureaucrats.
For example, the rule spends four pages listing what you cannot do before providing a convenient catch-all sentence warning that the list they just gave is “not exhaustive.”
It also states that the rule is “unlikely” to cover selling your gun to an immediate family member – but leaves open the possibility that ATF could change their mind.
At a time when the federal government is being weaponized like never before, giving radical anti-gun ATF bureaucrats another excuse to come after gun owners like me would have disastrous consequences for our country.
As your constituent and a GOA member, I’m urging you to DEFUND this egregious rule during the appropriations process.
The ATF should not get a SINGLE PENNY to enforce this tyranny.
I’d also like to see you use the Congressional Review Act to REPEAL it as soon as possible.
I’m going to be watching closely to see what you do – and GOA will keep me informed.
