Please Sign SB 555 into law and keep Californians Housed!
I am writing to urge you to sign SB 555 (Wahab), The Stable Affordable Homes Act to keep California familes Housed.
SB 555 (Wahab) The Stable Affordable Homes Act, Defines Social Housing, and creates a 2-year Housing and Community Development Study of social housing as a viable way to create much-needed housing stock wihch is permanently affordable at every income level.
With California in a housing crisis, and the inability to build quickly enough to satisfy California's population, it is critical that SB 555 be signed into law to explore social housing as a major solution!
Homelessness is surging throughout the state and as COVID eviction moratoriums come to an end with nearly 140,000 renters still waiting on rent relief, hundreds of thousands of renters are at risk of becoming homeless. Eviction for profit unloads the cost of homelessness on local economies and the California taxpayer in the millions. SB 555 is a study on social housing as a solution to prevent displacement and homelessness by the acquistion and development of permanently affordable housing stock at every income level.
We cannot build our way out of this problem alone - we must explore working alternatives to the housing crisis in California!
Please sign SB 555 into law for the future of California Families!!
We must prevent homelessness!
I am writing to urge you to support the Homelessness Prevention Act, SB 567, authored by Senator Durazo. SB 567 builds on existing law to better protect California’s low-income renters from homelessness.
SB 567 responds to the present-day reality millions of California renters are facing and prevents families from falling into homelessness by:
● Improving enforcement of the statewide just cause eviction law, and
● Implementing new protections that make it more difficult to fraudulently use substantial renovation or owner move-in for unjust evictions.

SB 567 bears no cost to the state and closes eviction-for-profit loopholes, while helping to prevent displacement and homelessness for existing residents in the process.
We cannot build our way out of this problem alone - we must also stop the bleeding! The way to end the unjust displacement of California families must include basic, common sense protections for the 17 million Californians who rent.
Please vote Yes for Senate Bill 567.
