As we head into the new year, I would like the opportunity to continue my legal outdoor pursuits in a safe and sustainable manner – be they hunting, fishing, four-wheel driving, camping, motorbike riding, horse riding, rock climbing, hiking, organic food harvesting or any other legal outdoor pursuit that is currently enjoyed on public lands. Time spent in the outdoors is a known stress-reliever, and studies have shown this to be the case. Why any government would consider preventing people from enjoying time in nature with their family and friends is beyond comprehension. If bans are put in place, there is also the potential for traditions and a way of life long passed down through families to be lost forever – and this would be a true tragedy. Please make my year and say 'no' to any proposed ban on our much-loved recreational pursuits.

This year, I'm wishing for the opportunity to continue engaging in my beloved outdoor hobbies in a responsible and sustainable manner. Whether it's hunting, fishing, four-wheel driving, camping, motorbike riding, horseback riding, rock climbing, hiking, or even harvesting organic food, these activities hold immense importance for me and many others. Spending time in nature is not only a way for us to unwind and find solace, but it has also been scientifically proven to have positive effects on our mental well-being. It is baffling to think that any government would consider depriving people of the opportunity to connect with nature and create cherished memories with their loved ones. I humbly request that you please consider my plea and stand against any proposed bans on our recreational pursuits. These activities have become cherished traditions within families, and it would be tragic to see them vanish. I kindly request that you oppose any proposed ban on these beloved recreational pastimes.

Please do not seek to ban the recreational pursuits that I love. Hunting and fishing, four-wheel driving, camping, the chance to gather free-range healthy food for my family – these are the things I enjoy and which I fear could be taken away by those who seek to change our traditions and way of life with little to no understanding of what it means to us. It means everything. I simply ask for the opportunity to continue these and other legal and sustainable outdoor pursuits. Imposing bans would not only hinder or halt our ability to partake in these activities but would also risk eradicating long-standing traditions enjoyed by generations.

These are important to me and so many others and it would be a true travesty if the ability to engage in these activities was taken from us.

In 2024 a happy new year for me means being able to continue enjoying the great outdoors and all the activities that bring me joy and fulfilment. Hunting, camping and fishing in particular provide a much-needed escape from the pressures of life and offer a chance to reconnect with not only the environment but also with myself – and I know I am not alone in this way of thinking. If restrictions on these activities were imposed, the repercussions would extend far beyond losing cherished traditions; it would mean losing a way of life. Please reject any proposed bans on our beloved outdoor pursuits.

I want to know that I will continue to have the opportunity to engage in my favourite outdoor activities. Spending time in our great outdoors is an antidote to the pressures of modern life that must not be brushed aside. Hunting, camping, fishing – these legal outdoor activities and others bring immense joy to my life and allow me to reconnect with nature. The thought of being deprived of this makes no sense to me. Restrictions or bans would take away our ability to enjoy these activities, and could result in the loss of cherished traditions and a way of life that has been present within my family and that of countless others for generations. This would be an undeniable tragedy. Please reject any proposal to ban recreational hunting, and let us continue to both enjoy and protect the wonders of nature for generations to come.
