Support the Epinephrine’s Pharma Inflated Price Ends Now (EPIPEN) Act
I write to request our support for the Epinephrine’s Pharma Inflated Price Ends Now (EPIPEN) Act (H.R. 6965) which makes the costs of epinephrine auto-injectors more affordable and accessible to those living with severe allergies by capping the out-of-pocket costs at $60 per pack of two, for individuals with employer-based or individually purchased health insurance.
There are 32 million Americans living with severe allergies from food, insect venom, medication and latex who are at risk for anaphylaxis (a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction). The first-line treatment for anaphylaxis is epinephrine yet approximately 1,500 American die each year. Immediate access to this lifesaving medication is critical. Not having access is putting Americans at risk for poorer health outcomes and deepening inequities for those with severe allergies.
Affordability is one of the most important challenges impacting Americans’ ability to access medical care and treatment. Unaffordable out-of-pocket expenses have led to patients not filling a doctor’s prescription, reducing their dosage to make a supply last longer, buying medicines from foreign countries, or substituting alternative therapies.
Several states have implemented price caps for epinephrine auto-injectors, but the rising cost of these devices is a nationwide issue. Your support is needed to bring greater access to this lifesaving medication and to save lives!
Thank you for your consideration of this important matter. I hope this legislation becomes law.
