Hold the Line to Preserve Liberty! Oppose H.J.R. 1034, Unless Amended!
As your constituent and a proud supporter of Gun Owners of America, I am disheartened to hear that the effort to amend Article II Section 26 of the Oklahoma Constitution contains unprincipled elements and imprecise language that will be used to infringement upon my Second Amendment rights.
Within the American tradition of ordered liberty, the sole task of governmental is to protect the inherent and individual freedoms of the citizenry. Therefore, the legislature ought not to create and advance imprudent constitutional amendments that, due to vague drafting language, will be used to strip away an essential right simply because it arbitrarily deems a constitutionally protected right as dangerous or has been misused by a lawless individual.
As a citizen of These United States, I have the constitutionally enumerated right to “keep and bear arms” regardless of whether the government or discriminating individuals within my community considers it suitable for a me to exercise my God-given rights.
Because you represent my interests in Oklahoma City, you are on the front lines of this unprecedented struggle with those who are actively seeking to strip me of my natural rights. Consequently, you must hold the line and that significant responsibility is yours to bear as a part of the burden of holding public office!
GOA opposes the H.J.R. 1034 with its current language on First Principles grounds.
As introduced, the new subsections A and C must be amended to align H.J.R. 1034 with the original intent of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution and with the first principles that the amendment was drafted to protect.
Additionally, the new subsection B should be stuck in its entirety from the resolution. Subsection B is unconstitutional as written and contains clear deviations that places the new language in direct conflict with the Federal Compact, as well as significant Supreme Court precedents.
GOA is closely monitoring this constitutional amendment due to the necessity for significant alterations in order make the language align with GOA’s no compromise mission statement, which is a commitment to upholding the spirit of the laws as envisioned by the Framers.
Gun Owners of America will keep me informed on the above legislation, but please let me know your position on these important bills.
