As a Delawarean and proud supporter of the Gun Owners of America I ask that you VETO HB 311 and uphold our Second Amendment rights. Adding colleges and universities to “Safe School Zones” will make Delaware less safe. Gun–free zones are dangerous because they turn public areas into soft targets that those with malicious intent are able to exploit. Carry bans like these have long left gun-owners stranded in a difficult situation of trying to maintain their own safety while earning an education. The Second Amendment is RELENTLESSLY attacked, and the people are rarely given an opportunity of providing for their own safety. When it comes to keeping our schools safe, those with malicious intent will ALWAYS think twice when there is a possibility that their potential victims can fight back. Because of this, I ask that you support teachers and students arming themselves as they see fit, something that 11 other states already allow.
