Say NO to a federal gun registry
As your constituent, I am very concerned by ATF’s possession of nearly a billion gun and gun owner records.
ATF’s illegal gun registry was used to trace the gun used by President Trump’s assassin but, gun registration did not stop or prevent this tragedy.
And in response to Rep. Michael Cloud’s FOIA request, the ATF could not provide a single example where gun registration successfully stopped a criminal. In fact, ATF Director Dettelbach testified that more than half of law enforcement do their jobs without using this illegal registry. It is simply not necessary and poses too great a threat to our Second Amendment.
We have a Bill of Rights which protects against encroachments from the federal government, regardless of whether gun registration is able to stop even one bad guy. Law enforcement might also say that bugging homes, spying on American citizens, or squelching free speech could help them.
But the moment we surrender our freedoms for security, we will be left with neither.
So, in addition to opposing any federal gun registry, I urge you to also support H.R. 1271, which would require the ATF to DESTROY all purchase records in their database.
