SB 63 Protects Access to Books – Vote Yes
As a Colorado library advocate, I am writing to ask that you please support Senate Bill 25-063, “Concerning standards that public schools are required to include in policies regarding library resources.” Colorado educators and school librarians work every day to ensure access to age-relevant and developmentally appropriate materials for our students, and they should not face retaliation simply for doing their job.
SB63, which will appear before the Senate Education Committee on Monday, February 10, would bar school districts from enacting policies that discriminate against literature from protected classes such as LGBTQ+, Black/POC voices, and others. Colorado has long been a state that prizes individual liberty, and the freedom to read and learn is vital to the First Amendment.
It is a shame that we continue to see books being banned in our state. Colorado is a national leader in education, and the attacks coming from the federal government make it more important than ever that you support this legislation to protect the rights of Coloradans.
Please support SB 63 – our freedom to read deserves to be protected.
Support SB 63 to Protect School Library Access
As a Colorado library advocate, I urge you to support Senate Bill 25-063, “Concerning standards that public schools are required to include in policies regarding library resources.” This legislation is essential to ensuring that educators and school librarians can continue providing students with access to age-appropriate and diverse materials without fear of retaliation.
SB 63, scheduled for a hearing before the Senate Education Committee on Monday, February 10, would bar school districts from enacting policies that discriminate against literature from protected classes such as LGBTQ+, Black/POC voices, people of faith, and others. Colorado has a proud tradition of valuing individual freedoms, and protecting the right to read is a fundamental part of that legacy.
Despite this, we continue to see efforts to ban books across our state. As a leader in education, Colorado must stand against censorship and affirm that students deserve access to a broad range of perspectives. At a time when national attacks on intellectual freedom are escalating, passing SB 63 is more critical than ever.
Please support SB 63 – our freedom to read deserves to be protected.
Support School Librarians – Vote Yes on SB 63
I am writing as a concerned advocate for Colorado’s students, educators, and libraries to urge your support for Senate Bill 25-063, “Concerning standards that public schools are required to include in policies regarding library resources.” This legislation is essential in ensuring that school policies do not unfairly restrict access to diverse books or silence historically underrepresented voices.
SB 63, which will be considered by the Senate Education Committee on Monday, February 10, would bar school districts from enacting policies that discriminate against literature from protected classes such as LGBTQ+, Black/POC voices, people of faith, and others. Every student deserves the opportunity to see themselves reflected in the materials available in their school libraries, and every educator deserves the freedom to provide students with books that encourage learning and critical thinking.
Censorship has no place in Colorado’s schools. Our state has always upheld the values of intellectual freedom, and passing SB 63 would reinforce our commitment to the rights of students to access a broad and inclusive range of literature.
Please support SB 63 – our freedom to read deserves to be protected.
