I oppose AB 1078!
I am writing to express my strong opposition to AB 1078 ( Berman) which restricts the number of firearms an individual can purchase to three a month. This proposal directly circumvents the ruling in Nguyen v. Bonta, which declared California’s one gun a month scheme unconstitutional.
Legislation that places any sort of limitation on how many firearms a responsible and lawful gun owner can buy will do absolutely nothing to curb the problem of criminal gun violence. Instead, this bill is a legislative snub to the ruling by Judge William Q. Hayes of the Southern California District Court who ruled "nothing in the text of the Second Amendment suggests that the Second Amendment right is limited to possession and acquisition of a single firearm, or that the acquisition of additional firearms is inherently subject to additional limitations—if anything, the usage of the term 'arms' in plural suggests the opposite."
For this simple fact, I stand with Gun Owners of California and strongly urge a NO vote on AB 1078.
I oppose AB 1078!
I’m writing to voice my strong opposition to AB 1078 (Berman), which would limit lawful gun owners to purchasing no more than three firearms per month. This bill is a direct end-run around the Nguyen v. Bonta decision, where the court struck down California’s one-gun-a-month law as unconstitutional.
Measures like this won’t stop criminals—they’ll just burden responsible citizens. Judge William Q. Hayes made it clear in his ruling that the Second Amendment protects the right to acquire multiple firearms, stating: “Nothing in the text of the Second Amendment suggests that the right is limited to a single firearm... the usage of the term 'arms' in plural suggests the opposite.”
AB 1078 is a slap in the face to that ruling and an affront to constitutional rights. That’s why I stand with Gun Owners of California in urging a firm NO vote on this bill.
