Please defend the Second Amendment
As a resident of Connecticut and a proud supporter of Gun Owners of America, I ask that you VETO HB 7042!
HB 7042 allows for civil lawsuits to be brought against firearm industry members "who fail to exercise 'reasonable control' over their product." What this language means is that firearm industry members can be deemed responsible for the actions of other people outside their company, who commit crimes with a firearm they’ve manufactured or sold.
HB 7042 also adds certain misdemeanor convictions that occur in other jurisdictions to the list of offenses that disqualify a person from being issued long gun and handgun eligibility certificates and handgun permits.
If HB 7042 were to pass, it would outright ban some of the most commonly owned firearms in Connecticut on the basis that those models of firearms are simply capable of receiving fire-rate altering devices. This bill would punish the multitude of law-abiding gun owners in Connecticut and further restrict their ability to exercise the Second Amendment by expanding liability against firearms industry members.
Lastly, HB 7042 was brought about in an extremely partisan manner, as every single amendment provided to protect gun owners and the Second Amendment were outright rejected.
HB 7042 would be terrible for gun owners in Connecticut, and I am asking that you defend my Second Amendment rights outlined in the Connecticut and United States Constitutions by VETOING HB 7042!
