Commit to climate action - Green New Deal
Climate change is a growing threat to our communities. We need a response that meets the scale of the crisis. I am writing to ask you to show your commitment to climate action and co-sponsor the resolution on the Green New Deal introduced by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Ed Markey.
Climate change impacts are already being felt all over the world, including in the United States. The terrible and deadly wildfires in California are just the latest example of how our climate is changing. Continued global warming will lead to worsening wildfires, more flooding and droughts, and millions of additional people facing extreme poverty.
The Green New Deal resolution recognizes not only the urgency of needed action but also the scale of needed response. It calls for the development of a plan for the Green New Deal that would, over a ten-year period, pave the way to “eliminating pollution and greenhouse gas emissions as much as is technologically feasible,” including meeting 100 percent of power through clean, zero-emission energy sources, investing in increased energy efficiency of buildings and overhauling transportation systems. It also calls for investing in climate resilience, to empower communities to better cope with a changing climate. Crucially, the Green New Deal also recognizes the outsized role that our country has had in creating this problem and the responsibility for the US to play a leading role in the international response to the climate crisis.
The resolution also acknowledges the problem of extreme inequality. Too many Americans are unable to access basic needs such as clean water, healthy food, education and housing. These challenges cannot be held in isolation from the climate crisis and must be addressed together if we are to succeed in building the more just and equitable future we need.
A Green New Deal can form the basis of an ambitious, democratic vision for climate action and a more just and sustainable economy. I urge you to co-sponsor this important resolution.

I'm writing to ask you to show your commitment to climate action by co-sponsoring the resolution on the Green New Deal introduced by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Ed Markey.
Climate change impacts are already being felt all over the world, including here at home. The terrible and deadly wildfires in California are just the latest example of how our climate is changing. Continued global warming will lead to worsening wildfires, more flooding and droughts, and millions more people facing extreme poverty.
The Green New Deal resolution recognizes not only the urgency of needed action but also the scale of needed response. It calls for the development of a plan for the Green New Deal that would, over a 10-year period, pave the way to “eliminating pollution and greenhouse gas emissions as much as is technologically feasible,” including meeting 100% of power through clean, zero-emission energy sources, investing in increased energy efficiency of buildings and overhauling transportation systems. It also calls for investing in climate resilience, to empower communities to better cope with a changing climate.

Moreover, the resolution acknowledges the problem of extreme inequality. Too many Americans are unable to access basic needs such as clean water, healthy food, education and housing. These challenges cannot be held in isolation from the climate crisis and must be addressed together if we are to succeed in building the more just and equitable future we need.
