Do you support the sale of Santee Cooper?
It’s time to act on Santee Cooper’s debt, which is growing by $1 million each day. With several offers on the table to buy Santee Cooper and eliminate its $9 billion-dollar (and growing) debt as well as lower electric rates, I don’t think the Senate can afford to wait. More to the point, as a ratepayer who will be forced to pay for Santee Cooper’s debt if you fail to act, I can’t afford to wait. With no time to waste I hope you are supporting the sale and working to make that happen.
No more debt - sell Santee Cooper
I’ve heard that the state has the opportunity to sell Santee Cooper to a company that will eliminate its $9 billion debt from the nuclear project. Sell it. Right now, that debt is growing at $1 million every day Santee Cooper is owned by the state. I was taught that when you’re in a hole, stop digging. As your constituent, I ask you to stop digging us into more and more debt, and sell Santee Cooper as soon as possible. We can’t afford to wait.
Get rid of Santee Cooper debt
You have a choice: Sell Santee Cooper or saddle your constituents with its debt.
As your constituent I’m worried about what the growing debt from Santee Cooper will do to our electricity bills and our economic growth.
Santee Cooper is deep in debt and as long as the state holds on to it the deeper the debt goes and you have nowhere to go to pay for it except us customers. We’ll be shelling out our hard-earned money and getting nothing for it in return.
That seems to me to be simple choice. I trust you will do the right thing and support the sale of Santee Cooper and the elimination of its debt.
Where do you stand on Santee Cooper?
Santee Cooper is deep in debt, to the tune of $9 billion, with no way to pay off the money it owes except by getting customers to pay higher prices. I heard that there are several buyers for Santee Cooper who would take care of the debt and lower customers’ rates, but that the Senate is not going along with the sale. I don’t think customers should be punished with higher rates. If a buyer will pay the debt and lower our bills, it’s a good deal for the state. I think that’s a good thing, and that you should support it. I hope you support the sale of Santee Cooper. Please let me know.
