If the Senate joins the House in passing the radical H.R. 8 -- the anti-gun lobby will have taken a giant step toward achieving its BIGGEST goals of 2019: * Mandating UNIVERSAL background checks * BANNING private gun sales * Creating a federal registry of U.S. Gun Owners (despite prohibitions in the bill) Oh sure, the bill supposedly prohibits registration, But under H.R. 8, every gun transfer will go through a dealer. And that means that every gun owner will have to fill out a 4473. Gun Owners of America has documented that the ATF, in connection with annual inspections conducted under federal law, is already violating the law and illegally copying these forms to its database in a centrally accessible format. So if the current prohibition against registration isn’t being followed, why would anyone suppose that putting it in the law a second time would make any difference? Please support the Second Amendment and OPPOSE H.R. 8. And oppose H.R. 1112 which will effectively impose lengthy waiting periods on many law-abiding gun owners.

Under H.R. 8’s oppressive gun control, many private transfers of guns would require burdensome and ineffective Brady Background checks. And ANYONE who refuses to comply -- even if they just hand their gun to a close friend for ONE second -- could be sent to prison under many circumstances. So H.R. 8 would impose all these onerous restrictions -- even while Universal Background Checks (UBCs) have been proven failures: * UBCs have not prevented several mass shootings over the past few years in California, including the ones in San Bernardino (2015) and Thousand Oaks (2018). * They have not kept Chicago and Baltimore from having some of the highest murder rates in the country. * And a study from UC Davis shows these laws completely failed to reduce homicide and suicide rates in California. There is not one mass shooting in this century where the perpetrator didn’t either pass a background check or bypass the check altogether -- usually via theft. Universal Background Checks have been tried, and they’ve failed miserably. So please oppose H.R. 8 -- and oppose H.R. 1112 which will effectively impose lengthy waiting periods on many law-abiding gun owners. Of course, the bill is not limited to that, as it criminalizes the “transfer” of a firearm without a Brady check. The term “transfer” is nowhere defined, but it’s clear from the bill that handing a gun to a neighbor for as little as one second is a “transfer” unless the person is covered by one of the bill’s so-called exceptions. So if you hand your firearm to a friend while you both are cleaning weapons, and then go into the kitchen to get another towel, you’re a criminal and can go to prison for up to a year. By the way, Gun Owners of America has demonstrated that the “exceptions” in the bill are merely trap doors that could, if enforced to the letter, put millions of gun owners in prison.
