Time to strengthen VA’s preemption law for firearms
It now turns out that gun control was, in large part, responsible for the Virginia Beach tragedy.
The Virginia-Pilot reported on June 10 that one of the victims, Kate Nixon, considered carrying her self-defense firearm to work on May 31.
Sadly, Mrs. Nixon opted instead to obey an illegal city ordinance, and she paid with her life. No one should be forced to choose between their salary and their life.
The murderer was a city employee who was most certainly aware that his victims were disarmed and would be unable to fight back.
I agree with Gun Owners of America that the General Assembly must add penalties to Virginia’s firearms preemption law -- at Virginia Code Section 15.2-915 -- so that once and for all local gun control will be abolished.
The previous authors of the firearms preemption law seem to have not contemplated that local officials would ignore the law. This is exactly what the City of Virginia Beach has done -- and eleven innocent people lost their lives in an illegal gun free zone.
So please work to add penalties for local officials who ignore Virginia’s preemption laws. And oppose Gov. “Blackface” Northam’s gun control agenda.
Penalizing local officials who pass gun control will save lives

Gun control contributed to 11 dead victims in Virginia Beach
On June 10, the Virginia-Pilot reported that Kate Nixon wanted to bring a gun to work on the day of the deadly massacre, because she was concerned about DeWayne Craddock.
But she chose to leave her self-defense instrument at home because she was scared about losing her job. Sadly, she lost her life.
It is very possible that Kate Nixon could have used her firearm to completely prevent the tragedy in Virginia Beach. Instead, she was forced to cower -- defenseless -- in a gun-free zone.
Had Kate Nixon had a gun, the story from Virginia Beach could have had an entirely different outcome. Consider just some of the recent cases where women have used firearms to stop violent assaults -- just within the past couple of weeks:
* A Wisconsin woman shot a larger, more powerful male who assaulted her recently. (WISN, May 31, 2019)
* An Ohio mom shot a home invasion suspect when her children were sleeping upstairs. (WCPO, June 6, 2019)
* A Florida woman held a home invader at gun point for 26 minutes waiting for the police to arrive. (WFLA, June 3, 2019)
Virginia needs to bolster the preemption law in Virginia by inserting penalties against local officials who disarm honest citizens -- at Virginia Code Section 15.2-915.
And, as Gun Owners of America has repeatedly pointed out, the Commonwealth also needs Constitutional Carry, which protects the right of decent citizens to carry without being hassled by government bureaucrats.
Please support these changes and oppose Gov. “Blackface” Northam’s gun control proposals.
Guns save lives, but gun-free zones are magnets for killers

Gun control is a political loser; Oppose Gov. “Blackface”
I agree with Gun Owners of America that every single piece of Gov. “Blackface” Northam’s gun agenda needs to be voted down. I oppose:
Bans on private sales, transfers, loans or gifts;
Bans on sound suppressors;
Bans on common semi-automatic firearms and magazines;
Gun Confiscation Orders known as “red flag” laws;
Repealing preemption which will allow local gun bans; and
Reinstating the failed one-gun-a-month law.
The Governor is asking the General Assembly to play a dangerous game in an election year. After all, gun control is a political loser. Just ask Al Gore, John Kerry and Hillary Clinton.
Even Barack Obama, as anti-gun as he was, chose to keep his agenda hidden until after his second election.
Gun Owners of America will expose every legislator who votes for Governor “Blackface” Northam’s racist agenda.
Remember, gun control has its roots in racism -- from southern states keeping the newly-freed slaves disarmed ... to Alabama denying MLK, Jr. from carrying concealed ... to the innocent African-American who was shot dead last year by police who were enforcing Maryland’s “red flag” gun grab.
The legislature should be instead working to repeal the gun bans that left victims in Virginia Beach defenceless. And you should vote for Constitutional Carry legislation, which will encourage more good men and women to protect themselves, so they will REFUSE to become victims.
GOA will keep me informed of what you are doing -- and I WILL REMEMBER in November.
