Please don’t support Nancy Pelosi’s gun control package such as: 1) Magazine bans that will endanger law-abiding gun owners facing multiple attackers (H.R. 1186); 2) “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation Orders (H.R. 1236/H.R. 3076) that will throw out Due Process; and, 3) Hate crimes gun ban (H.R. 2708) which will impose a lifetime gun ban on gun owners for non-violent actions -- primarily because they held views Democrats don’t like. As pointed out by Gun Owners of America (GOA), our country does not need additional laws to deal with killers like the Dayton, Ohio shooter. GOA’s Legislative Counsel Michael Hammond penned an article in Townhall showing that the Dayton killer could have easily had his guns removed (using due process) if anyone had bothered to use existing law. The killer had a long record of threatening people, and as it turns out, one can be charged in Ohio with “menacing,” which the state treats as a felony. Remember his infamous “Read My Lips” blunder -- when he spit in the faces of his supporters and broke his promise not to raise taxes. Equally potent was Bush’s betrayal on gun rights. As Gun Owners of America has demonstrated, Bush’s support for gun control cost him eleven states in 1992 -- all states where gun rights had played a significant role and which he had won in 1988. Bush had a one-term failed presidency -- and Trump and many Senate Republicans could suffer the same fate if they break their 2nd Amendment promises to the American people. This is precisely what happened to President Bush in 1992, and it’s the same fate that Senator Kelly Ayotte suffered. Ayotte earned a “D” rating from a state gun rights group after she voted for cloture on the Feinstein semi-auto ban. Many New Hampshire gun owners thus boycotted Ayotte in the 2016 election, and she lost by 1,017 votes! GOA’s Senior Vice President Erich Pratt went on Fox News and used Ayotte’s blunder as an example of what can happen to Republicans who violate their oath and support gun control. Then, Rush Limbaugh replayed GOA’s appearance on his national show and reiterated that it is a “possibility” that Republicans lose their majority after supporting gun control. Do not betray the trust of gun owners. The last part of the Second Amendment says that, “The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” So to be clear: All the gun bills that are being considered in the House Judiciary Committee are “infringements.” I agree with Gun Owners of America that there is no compromise you can make with the anti-gunners to ever win over their trust, support, or votes. But you can be sure that supporting gun bans and gun confiscation will be a POLITICAL LOSER. Consider the words of former Kansas congressman Dan Glickman, as they appeared in The Hill on August 16: “I had been in Congress for 18 years by [1994]…. Not only did I think I was in good standing with my voters, I thought that my seat in Congress was about as safe as you can get. I did not fully appreciate the intensity of feeling against the federal assault weapons ban by many gun owners and law-abiding citizens in my district. I lost my seat that fall.” I hope that you will never consider a magazine ban (such as H.R. 1186) that will endanger law-abiding gun owners facing multiple attackers. One only needs to recall recent instances where gun owners used their “military-styled” firearms with multiple rounds to SAVE lives to see how valuable these magazines are for self-defense: * A Houston man fired several rounds while fighting off five home invaders this year, using hisAK-47 as his primary means of defense; and, * A Florida man utilized his AR-15 to fire 30 rounds while fighting off seven intruders. Please OPPOSE all gun control and, instead, support H.R. 38 (concealed carry reciprocity) and H.R. 3200 (gun-free school zone repeal). These are two bills that will actually save lives.
