Pass HB 1066 and Strengthen Firearms Preemption
I urge you to vote for HB 1066 and strengthen Pennsylvania's firearms preemption law.
HB 1066 allows law-abiding citizens and membership organizations who represent them to recover damages, reasonable attorneys fees, and costs if a court finds that a local ordinance violates the state firearms preemption law (Title 18 §6120).
Not only are the illegal ordinances passed by Pittsburgh and other local jurisdictions in defiance of state law, they are designed to bankrupt me, the law-abiding gun owner. Meanwhile, pro-bono help is given to these rogue municipalities by Michael Bloomberg's Everytown for Gun Safety.
My Constitutional rights are under a full-scale assault via a financial "war of attrition" pressed by the unconstitutional agenda of Everytown lawyers and their political henchmen. This is infuriating and totally unacceptable.
Again, please vote for and pass HB 1066 without amendment immediately.
Court strikes down Peduto gun control
On October 29, 2019, Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, Judge Joseph M. James struck down three gun control ordinances passed on April 9, 2019 by the City of Pittsburgh Council and Mayor Bill Peduto.
The three ordinances sought to ban semi-automatic firearms, limit magazine capacity, and included a "Red Flag" gun confiscation order.
All three of the illegal ordinances were ruled by Judge James to be a violation of the state firearms preemption law.
But this battle is far from over. The City of Pittsburgh is promising to appeal the case as far as it can go, even though it has no legal merit. Bloomberg's Everytown USA is providing free legal help to the City and their strategy is to bankrupt gun owners through endless litigation.
The best way to prevent Pittsburgh from continuing to violate Pennsylvania law is to strengthen the firearms preemption law by passing HB 1066.
HB 1066 will allow citizens to recover legal fees and damages when local governments violate preemption and will ensure that rogue mayors like Bill Peduto are held accountable.
Please vote for and pass HB 1066 without amendment immediately.
