Patients Lack the Access They Need
Even with delivery services available, there are currently vast areas of the state who lack access to medical cannabis because the closest retailer is simply too far away for delivery. 76% of cities and counties have banned cannabis retailers.
Please fix this now!
Cannabis is Compassion
Cannabis has a long history of providing medical benefits, and we may be just scratching the surface. During the AIDs epidemic, cannabis was often their only relief. For those who continue to suffer from a variety of ailments, they should have the right to access cannabis as needed. As medical research continues, cannabis could prove to be a solution for a large number of people, but only if policy makers act in the best interest of their constituents. If easing suffering can be addressed in such a simple straightforward manner, why wait.
End the Unjust War on Drugs
Cannabis has already proven to provide a growing number of medical benefits, helping those with chronic pain, glaucoma, and even nausea for cancer patients. Yet there are those who have been arrested for amounts well below level required for intent to distribute that are currently incarcerated for years. Even with chronic overcrowding in so much of the prison system, this practice continues today. We can no longer ignore this problem, and truly reevaluate if the time fits the crime.
The time has come to reevaluate and release those who have been unjustly imprisoned.
Where is the access to MJ licenses?
Right now, it is almost impossible for small-business owners to secure a license to operate legally in nearly 77% of cities and counties in the state. This is not what Californians voted for when they overwhelmingly passed Prop. 64 in 2016.
Far too many California small business owners have invested their time, effort, and finances into a business with the expectation that they would be able to operate legally. Because of unwieldy requirements and local bans, many business owners who would like to comply with the law simply cannot afford to, or have been shut out since the recreational market opened. Local bans have forces hard-working small business owners to choose between working without a license and losing their business entirely.
Fix California's Unjust MJ Legalization
Cannabis legalization has come a long way in the last few years, but there is still a long way to go. Despite seeing the medical, economic, and societal benefits, there are those that still have problems gaining access to the plant. Despite all of the research being put into the next steps, policy lags behind and with it, people continue to suffer. There is no time to wait, the information is available, the benefits are quantifiable, and legalization is the next logical step.
