Stop the eviction of seniors!
Hi, I'm writing on behalf of the San Pablo seniors and tenants living just blocks from each other in the Brookdale and Porto apartments that are both being evicted.
This is a life or death situation. 60% of seniors die within 6 months of a move.
As a community member, we cannot and will not allow for nearly one hundred of our most vulnerable to be thrown out onto the streets on the eve of the winter holidays. Contra Costa County has already seen a 43% increase in homelessness in just the past 2 years - and the evictions you're facilitating will only make that worse. I'm calling on you to do the moral and ethical thing to stop the evictions!
**To Lucinda Baier, Amber Pedretti, and Mary Lou Patchett, Brookdale Corporate Executives: we urge you to be an ethical and responsible community partner and to continue to operate the building until a new housing provider is identified.
**To Stephen Arnold and your sister, the owners of the Brookdale building: we similarly urge to hold off any sale of the building until a new housing provider is identified!
Hundreds of seniors lives are in your hands. Do the right thing and wait to take leave or make the sale until a new provider is able to step in and allow the seniors to stay in their homes!
**To Martin Gonzalez, landlord of the Porto Apartments at 2235 Church Lane, San Pablo: The eviction of the 14 families living in your building is both immoral and completely illegal. Not only will the tenants fight to stop your illegal eviction, but as community residents we will actively boycott La Strada, your restaurant, until you stop the eviction and find a solution that keeps the families housed.
As we sit in the worst housing crisis California has ever seen, with record numbers of families being pushed into homelessness, we as a community cannot stand by as more families are evicted in mass. Do the right thing and stop the evictions!
Keep the families in their homes!
