GOA to score the vote on spending bill without Dickey Amd
I urge you to oppose any spending bill that fails to maintain the Dickey amendment, which prohibits the CDC and NIH from using taxpayer funds for anti-gun advocacy.
At the time the Dickey amendment was proposed, officials in the CDC were indicating that they were going to use the agency in order to attack firearms ownership -- and to demonize firearms in the same sense as they had demonized tobacco.
For example, Dr. Mark Rosenberg, a former head of the CDC's National Center for Injury Control and Prevention in 1994, stated: "We need to revolutionize the way we look at guns, like what we did with cigarettes.... Now [smoking] is dirty, deadly, and banned."
And, of course, there was Arthur Kellerman who, using CDC funds, published a study in 1993 supposedly claiming a gun in the home is roughly three times more likely to be used against the homeowner, than to be used in self-defense.
Never mind that this statistic is a total lie and has been debunked by countless studies -- including Obama’s 2013 CDC study -- showing that guns are used more often to save lives in America.
Ultimately, the goal of the anti-gun left would have been to eradicate the Second Amendment.
Contrary to the universal press narrative, the amendment does not prohibit research on safety topics, but, rather, prohibits the agency from engaging in anti-gun advocacy.
Gun Owners of America tells me that if the Dickey amendment is removed from the federal appropriations legislation, they will score both the RULE and the vote on FINAL PASSAGE.
Again, please oppose any spending bill that would fund anti-gun research and advocacy.
