Emergencies like COVID-19 will make it impossible to get permits under HB 246
With so many changes relating to “social distancing” in place due to Covid-19, students and many businesses in Virginia have had to resort to using the Internet for school and work.
With the requirements of “social distancing” for the unforeseeable future even after the Corona Virus threat is past, I am asking you to please urge Governor Northam to either veto HB 264, or amend it to allow online testing for concealed carry permits during any future declared emergency.
Both Governor Northam and President Trump have urged citizens to avoid gatherings of ten or greater.
Prohibiting gatherings of more than ten, or possibly less in the future, will make it virtually impossible for Virginians to take tests in person to obtain a Concealed Carry permit should there be a future emergency.
Please contact Gov. Northam to offer this amendment, and to also support the amendment during the Veto session, should the Governor agree to offer it.
Online testing for concealed carry permits simply makes sense during declared states of emergency, especially since so many government employees and students are now working remotely.
Thank you.
