Vote Against a County Gun Ban
I am writing to you in opposition to the new proposed firearms ordinances that would ban guns at Fairfax County-owned or operated buildings, parks, recreation, and community centers, permitted events open to the public, and areas adjacent to those permitted events.
I ask you not to make a parent choose between being able to protect their family and taking their child to a park. As you know, criminals do not follow the law. These new regulations do nothing but infringe on our right to bear arms and make us less safe.
The ban on firearms at permitted events also violates our First and Second Amendment rights. By banning guns on adjacent streets, you will be turning law-abiding citizens that are just passing by an event into criminals.
Or even worse. What if one of the adjacent streets is Braddock Road? This language would clearly seem to suggest that no gun could be possessed on any part of Braddock Road, no matter how far from the permitted event.
I agree with Gun Owners of America that these regulations are just a solution in search of a problem.
I urge you to stand on the side of liberty and vote no to the proposed regulations.
