Demand New York’s Climate Action Council to Take Action!
I am emailing you today to ask that you demand New York’s Climate Action Council (CAC) to produce a rigorous cost-benefit study on implementing Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). As a gas fireplace industry member who works with natural gas and propane products every day, the implementation of CLCPA would be detrimental to our industry.
New York should consider the amount of emissions CLPA would actually reduce. Greenhouse gas emissions from natural gas customers have declined rapidly as more energy-efficient appliances, consumer conservation, and tighter building envelops have reduced energy demand. In fact, the average US residential gas customer’s CO2 emissions have been cut in half since 1970, a downward trend that is expected to continue.
As a job provider in my community, my business provides just a fraction of the 258,500 natural gas jobs now in jeopardy by the CLCPA. Please call on the CAC act and save the state $35.8 billion in jobs.

Protect Energy Choice in New York
I am emailing you today to ask that you help New Yorkers protect their ability to choose how they heat their homes by demanding the Climate Action Council (CAC) to produce a rigorous cost-benefit study on the implementation of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). As a gas fireplace industry member, I ask New York to consider the impact the CLCPA will have on consumer choice and cost.
As a business owner in my community, CLCPA will, like many other businesses, would severely hinder my ability to provide affordable heating to my community, especially for those who need it most. In fact, New York is also the sixth-largest natural gas consumer in the country. Natural gas is also the cheapest residential energy option in the state; a new natural gas home costs $916 a year to operate compared to $1,976 for an electric equivalent.

Support Reliable Energy in New York
I am emailing you today to ask that you demand New York’s Climate Action Council (CAC) to produce a rigorous cost-benefit study on implementing Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). As a member of the gas fireplace industry, policymakers evaluating decarbonization pathways should consider the implications of each pathway’s energy system resilience and the enormous benefits the natural gas distribution system provides.
Over the past year, recent extreme weather events and the COVID-19 pandemic have demonstrated the value of flexibility and responsiveness to sudden changes in energy demand, which give the natural gas system a comparative advantage. In fact, natural gas provides 2-3 times the energy as that of the electric sector during peak winter months. The frequency and scope of natural gas outages are limited compared to electric outages.
